DJing has also become much more cost-effective for the customer, rather than paying for an entire band to come play at your club, party, or event. It’s not only cheaper than local bands, but it also has a wider variety of music available to play, versus relying on the knowledge and skills of the band to know and be able to play the song that has been requested. This has also led to much more social media content revolving around DJs.
If you have been on Instagram, or TikTok, you have probably noticed the surge of celebrity “DJs”, whether they just learned or were DJs in the past. Celebrities such as Cody Ko, Idris Elba, Paris Hilton, and even Shaquille O’Neal have become popular as of late for their past, or present, DJing skills and abilities. It is an easy way not only to create content for your social media pages, but it is also an incredible way for celebrities now to connect with their audience on a personal level that they have never achieved before.
Finally, Djing has become much more popular in the past few years because of something that humans have become much too accustomed… convenience.
If you are setting up a show for a band, you have to make sure each member of the band shows up on time, set up all of the instruments, set up all of the sound equipment, plug everything in, do sound check with each instrument, then do sound check with the whole band, and then you are ready to start the show. With DJing, you set up the sound equipment, plug in your board, and you’re ready to start playing songs.
As I stated earlier as well, it’s not just the fact that it is easier to set up and easier to play songs, but that you have a wider selection of songs and it is an easy way for people to interact with their favorite songs and genres of music, breaking the barrier most bands face of being unable to learn an enormously wide-range of songs and playing them to perfection.
Djing is not only more convenient on the consumer, but also on the musician. As a DJ, I can show up early, set everything up, run soundcheck, and be done within an hour. After that, I am relaxing until the party starts and I can even run to the bathroom or to grab some food or drinks while my music is playing during the party!
In conclusion, DJing and being a DJ has become more popular than ever, due to the accessibility of technology, the user-friendliness of the new interfaces, and the convenience a DJ offers to the customer and new people who are interested in becoming DJs.
People who thought they could never perform a concert of some sorts because they lack the drive or passion to learn an instrument can now buy a DJ Board and be paid-DJs in just a couple of weeks or months. It has not only given people an option of conveniently consuming their favorite music, but has given many people the ability to become rockstars, who never thought they could be. Who knows, the next big time DJ could be you!
